The season is over for GW Graham’s senior football squad after a road playoff loss Saturday.

The Grizzlies fell 49-20 to Nanaimo’s John Barsby Bulldogs in the second round of the post-season.

Running back Jaiden Claassen had a solid game for the Grizz, carrying the ball 13 times for 124 yards and a touchdown.

Logan Buchwitz caught four passes for 88 yards and two majors.

Quarterback Grayson Frick completed 22 of 34 pass attempts for 246 yards.

“The offense moved the ball well but we had two turnovers deep in Barsby territory and also lost three onside kicks,” said GWG coach Laurie Smith. “It was 28-6 before the end of the first quarter for Barsby after they recovered those kicks and scored with each short field.

“Barsby is a good physical team and they also have a dynamic QB and run a balanced offense, but we were proud of our guys. They didn’t quit even when it was out of reach in the fourth quarter.”

Buchwitz and Cooper Middleton led the GW Graham defence with six tackles each.

— The GW Graham juniors get a chance for immediate revenge when they face John Barsby’s juniors in a AA semi-final Wednesday.

The game will be played at a neutral site, Burnaby Lakes.

The Grizzlies bounced the Ballenas (Parksville) Whalers 40-0 in a quarter-final last week while John Barsby wrecked Pitt Meadows by a 57-8 count.

The other semi-final match has North Vancouver’s Windsor Dukes taking on the College Heights (Prince George) Blue Cougars at Hillside Stadium in Kamloops.

The championship game will be played Dec. 1 at B.C. Place Stadium.
