GW Graham fundraising for football

With a varsity team set to join existing teams at the junior varsity and Grade 8 levels, GW Graham is looking for football money.

The GW Graham athletic department is looking for help as the fledgling football program prepares to expand.

The school fielded Grade 8 and junior varsity squads last year, and will be adding a varsity team in the fall.

“The cost of gear and equipment for a start up program is staggering,” said GWG coach Laurie Smith. “We spent over $50,000 in 2012 on helmets, pads, field equipment, uprights, travel, referees and other items, and we must do it again to add a varsity program in 2013. We need your help, and any amount is truly appreciated.”

GWG’s first season on the gridiron was a smashing success. The junior varsity team won four straight down the stretch to finish 4-2, missing the playoffs on a tiebreaker.

The Grade 8 team finished first in the AA regular season standings, ripped through the AAA playoff bracket and lost to the Notre Dame Jugglers in the provincial title game at BC Place.

“In terms of our efforts on the field we believe we are starting a proud tradition of excellence at GW Graham,” Smith said. “The future looks very promising for this program.”
