The Canadian Elite Basketball League’s U Sports draft results will be made public on April 14, and the Fraser Valley Bandits will have the sixth, ninth and 20th overall selections.
The league revealed its draft plans in a press release on Thursday (April 1).
Representatives of the seven clubs will convene through a virtual platform for the three-round draft, and the order of selection was the reverse order of finish by teams in the 2020 CEBL Summer Series.
As was the case in 2020, draft eligible U Sports players may have completed their university eligibility in 2020-21, or they may be returning to their university team in the fall and be classified within the CEBL’s U Sports developmental player program. They must qualify as Canadian, and they must have completed at least one full year of eligibility at their U Sports institution. Each CEBL club must have at least one U Sports player on its 10-man active roster at all times.
The Bandits chose UFV Cascades players Parm Bains, Daniel Adediran and Kenan Hadzovic in the 2020 CEBL U Sports draft.
“There is a tremendous pool of basketball talent all across this country and U Sports programs continue to develop so many of our best Canadian stars,” stated CEBL CEO and commissioner Mike Morreale. “With what has been a difficult year for all we hope the upcoming U Sports draftees will look forward with some excitement to see where they land for the upcoming 2021 CEBL season. It will be great to see these rising stars of tomorrow making the most out of their opportunity to learn from and play alongside our top professionals in the CEBL.”
The Bandits are scheduled to open the 2021 CEBL season in Abbotsford on June 5.
