Firefighters win Battle of the Badges

Hope and area firefighters scored a 9-8 overtime win in an annual charity game benefiting Cops for Cancer.

A team of RCMP officers took on a team of fire fighters in the Battle of the Badges game, held Feb. 9 at the Hope Arena.

A fundraiser for the fight against cancer, all proceeds went to Cops for Cancer and a volunteer cyclist who is required to raise a minimum of $5000 to qualify for the Tour de Valley.

The event was organized by Constable Francois Lewis and volunteer fireman George Johnston, a retired RCMP member.

In front of 200 boisterous fans, the score was tied 8-8. The firefighters ended up with the win in overtime.

"The hockey game was a lot of fun and very exciting to watch," said Corporal Tammy Hollingsworth. "It was great to see the community come together and raise money for such a great cause. We would like to send out a very big thank you to the Hope community for their support."
