Former Chilliwack Chiefs captain Jordan Kawaguchi has been named the National Collegiate Hockey Conference Forward of the Week after helping his North Dakota Fighting Hawks beat Bemidji State twice last weekend.

Gooch picked up his first goal of the season Friday.

His third period tally sent the game to overtime where teammate Westin Michaud secured the 2-1 win.

Kawaguchi set up a pair of goals Saturday in a 4-1 triumph and finished the weekend with a +3 plus/minus rating.

The Abbotsford native led North Dakota in scoring last season with 26 points (10 goals) in 36 games.

He’s in his third year with the Hawks and now wears an alternate A on his jersey.
