Ethan Bowen’s recovery from a broken hand was about five days too slow to get him on the ice for the CJHL Prospects Game.

The showcase event is being played Tuesday night in Hamilton, Ontario, with Chilliwack Chiefs hockey boss Brian Maloney running the bench for Team West.

“He just got his cast off and we didn’t want to run the risk of his first game back being a fast-paced one like this,” Maloney noted. “We want to make sure he’s 100 per cent healthy, and he’s close enough where he might play on the weekend.

“It wasn’t fun having that conversation with him, and there was some though about bringing him along just for the experience, but I think it was more important that he stay back, skate with the Chiefs and get ready.”

Maloney said he’s been fielding daily phone calls from pro scouts asking when the Chilliwack product will be back in action.

“There will be a lot of scouts in the stands watching him in the second half, for sure.”
