Chilliwack’s Zachary Clay has retained his spot on the Canadian men’s artistic gymnastics team.

Gymnastics Canada revealed the 19 names on the 2018-19 senior national squad Wednesday morning. Clay emerged from a selection process that included results from the 2018 Elite Canada competition and the 2018 Canadian Championships.

In the coming year he’ll travel to Doha, Qatar for the 2018 FIG Artistic Gymnastics World Championships. That event, running Oct. 25 to Nov. 3, will be the first opportunity for Clay to qualify for the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japan.

In July 2019, Gymnastics Canada will be sending two teams to the 2019 World FISU Games in Italy and Pan Am Games in Peru.

Clay, the 2017 Canadian all-around champion, has competed in three World Championships (2014, 2015, 2017), qualifying for the final in 2017. He was a member of Canada’s bronze-medal winning team at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland.
