Chilliwack’s Lisa Deputan rink has qualified for provincials in the senior women’s curling division, snagging a qualifying spot at last weekend’s Lower Mainland playdown in Abbotsford.

Joined by Pam Cuthbert (third), Donna Maitland (second) and Crystal Murray (lead), Deputan went 2-1 and won the B event with a dramatic triumph over Marnie Jepsen (Royal City).

Deputan’s crew won 5-4 with a winning point coming in the eighth end.

A Chilliwack/Hope rink including Kelly Jones (skip), Debbie McKinney (third), Rosalee Floyd (second) and Pattie Desjardins (lead) went 0-2.

Meanwhile, at the senior men’s playdown in Abbotsford, Chilliwack’s Doug Marshall rink fell one win short in their bid for a provincial berth.

Joined by Kevin Britz (third), Ken Britz (second), Darren Jarvis (lead) and Colin Mantik (fifth), Marshall’s four worked their way through to the B event final with a 3-1 record before falling 6-3 to Craig Lepine (Langley).

Deputan moves on to the 2019 B.C. Senior Curling Championship, Feb. 19-24 in Trail.

A good performance there will land her in the 2019 Everest Canadian Senior Curling Championships, taking place in Chilliwack March 22-28.
