The COVID-19 pandemic has completely derailed their debut seasons with the University of the Fraser Valley men’s basketball team, but Chilliwack’s Klim twins are carrying on.

The G.W. Graham grads joined their new teammates Wednesday morning, volunteering at the Archway Community Services Food Bank in Abbotsford.

While they can’t play games, they can carry on with community initiatives.

The Klims were tasked with sorting toys, opening up boxes of donations and stocking them on the appropriate shelves. While the ‘Toys for Tots’ event was cancelled due to COVID-19, Christmas Bureau Abbotsford will still be making donations to families in need over the Christmas season.

The Cascades also plan to help with tear-down and clean-up of the Christmas Bureau after the Christmas break.

The Cascades are not currently practicing with increased restrictions in the Fraser Health region.

The team hopes to return to in-person practices and possibly exhibition games in 2021, if restrictions ease. In the meantime, the Klims are participating in at-home workouts created by UFV’s strength and conditioning coach, Matt Chapdelaine.

The team is also holding Zoom meetings every two or three days, and with final exams coming up, both teens are kept busy with studies.
