Chilliwack soccer star Jordyn Huitema has something new to add to her trophy case.

The teenager has been named the Junior Female Athlete of the Year by Sport B.C. and received her award at the 53rd annual Athlete of the Year banquet last Wednesday.

Huitema was in a category with triathlete Desirae Ridenour (Cowichan Valley) and track star Camryn Rogers (Richmond).

Her accomplishments on the world stage with Canada’s national soccer team earned her the honour.

“It’s no secret, B.C. boasts many of the top athletes in Canada, and we reviewed an impressive list of candidates for awards consideration.” said selection committee chairman Bernie Pascall. “The excellent group of finalists reflects the remarkable degree of sports development in B.C.”

The Sport B.C. Awards are the longest standing sports recognition event in Canada.
