The Canada West football conference has released its annual prospect rankings four days ahead of Sunday’s Canadian Football League draft.

Chilliwack’s Evan Foster is seventh on the list and the second-ranked defensive lineman. The University of Manitoba grad was identified in a vote by the head coaches of the conference’s six football programs who placed his Bison teammate, offensive lineman Geoff Gray, at the top of the heap.

It’s the second straight year a Bison tops the list. Gray follows in the footsteps of defensive lineman David Onyemata, who was drafted in the fourth round of both the CFL (Saskatchewan Roughriders) and National Football League (New Orleans Saints) drafts.

The coaches submit a list of their potential draft picks, and then ranked the rest of the conference’s CFL hopefuls. A total of 25 players were submitted as prospects, with a first-place vote worth 25 points, a second-place vote worth 24 points and so on.

Foster totaled 110 points.

Last year a total of 14 players from Canada West schools were drafted by CFL clubs.

Over the last four years 52 CW players have been drafted into the CFL, including former Thunderbird Taylor Loffler, who was selected 19th overall in last year’s draft by the Winnipeg Blue Bombers and went on to be a CFL West Division All-Star at defensive back.
