Chilliwack’s Allie Thiessen is used to being a standout on the softball diamond, but she also leading the way in the classroom.

A second-year student at Central Washington University, Thiessen was just named to the All-Academic Team in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference (GNAC). Seventy-two athletes were named to the team and only five had a grade-point average higher than Thiessen’s 3.91.

The Yale secondary (Abbotsford) grad is studying social services/sociology and this was her first All-Academic honour.

Thiessen’s school tied with Montana State Billings for the most GNAC selections with 15.

On the field, the outfielder was a fixture in the Central Washington lineup, starting all 30 games she appeared in. Of the Wildcat regulars, Thiessen had the fifth highest batting average at .354, contributing 28 singles, two doubles and two triples in 92 at-bats.
