Rosedale’s Josh Matzek backstopped his Fraser Valley Thunderbirds to a massive upset win in Major Midget Hockey League action last weekend.
Facing the first place Okanagan Rockets Sunday morning, the T-Birds got two goals from Nicholas Ponak and singles from Justin Bowerman and Ryan Hunt in a 4-3 win.
It was just fourth defeat all year for the Rockets (23-4-1), while the T-Birds improved to 10-17-3.
Chilliwack’s Hayden Guilderson and Dryden Downing were both held off the scoresheet.
Their team has the weekend off before returning to action Feb. 1-2 against the Valley West Hawks.
