Chilliwack Spartan swimmers strong at Langley Olympians short-course meet

Chilliwack’s 23 swimmers combined to capture 34 top-three finishes.

Chilliwack’s Spartan Swim Club sent 23 athletes to the Langley Olympians short-course meet on Nov. 3-4.

The Spartans swam well, coming home with 34 podium placements.

Emma Evans led the Chilliwack charge, collecting four firsts and two thirds in the 12-and-under girls group.

Evans led the way in the 100, 200 and 400 metre freestyles and the 100m backstroke. She placed third in the 50m freestyle and 200m individual medley.

Bronwen Wheeler won the 100 and 200m butterflies, 200 and 400m individual medley and 100m breaststroke.

Aryka Bennett swam to second in the 100m butterfly and third in the 200m butterfly. Alexis Reid was second in the 200m backstroke and third in the 100m backstroke.

Zoe Unger finished second in the 200m freestyle and third in the 200m backstroke.

Niall Johnson had himself a day in the 12-and-under boys category, winning four races. Johnson finished first in the 50, 100, 200 and 400m freestyles and the 200m individual medley.

He added second place finishes in the 100m breaststroke and butterfly.

Teammate Erik Rexha placed second in the 200m backstroke and third in the 100m backstroke.

Mary Rose Jerodico competed in the 13-14 year old girls group, grabbing top spot in the 100m backstroke, second place in the 100m butterfly and third in the 50 and 200m freestyles and 200m individual medley.

Taegan Factor snagged second in the 100m backstroke, Eden Grant finished third in the 100m backstroke and JiXiang Li placed third in the 200m breaststroke.
