Chilliwack secondary’s Jasmine Soltys comes close to provincial javelin podium

In the final meet of her stellar high school career, Soltys finished fifth in her specialty.

Chilliwack secondary’s Jasmine Soltys was the top local senior at the provincial track and field championships.

The meet was held May 30 to June 1 at the Apple Bowl in Kelowna.

Fresh off a first place showing at Fraser Valley championships and competing in the last meet of her high school career, Soltys finished fifth in the 600 gram javelin throw. Her mark of 36.38 metres was just over two metres off the winning mark of 38.44m set by Earl Marriot’s Rori Deness.

Another Chilliwack secondary Jasmine, Agudelo, finished 15th in the same event.

Soltys, Mamoundu Mardis (Chilliwack) and Melissa Holyhead-Miles (Chilliwack) finished ninth, 18th and 23rd in the four kg hammer-throw.and Mardis finished 19th in the four kilogram shot-put.

Chilliwack’s Sarah Stewart and Holyhead-Miles placed 15th and 29th in the one kg discus.

Chilliwack’s Jesula McCallum was sixth in the high jump.

Olivia Lounsbury (UC) and Anne Biela (Sardis) placed 18th and 21st in the triple jump.

Unity Christian’s Wiltosso Neufeld reached the podium with a third place finish in the 400m dash, clocking in at 49.31s. Diego Eraso was fifth in the same event with a time of 49.75s.

Neufeld finished fourth in the 200m dash with a time of 22.80s.

Caleb Graham (UC) and Logan MacDonald (Sardis) finished 17th and 30th in the 3000m run.

Graham placed 25th in the triple jump event.

Taranpreet Mann (Sardis) just missed the podium in the 2000m steeplechase.

His time of 6:57.47 was good for fourth place, just over a second behind the third place finisher, Sparwood’s Gage Paskiewich.

Graham was 12th in the same event.

Wilclair Neufeld (UC) placed 11th in the 1500m race walk and Highroad Academy’s Josiah Gamlak was 17th in the 800 gram javelin.
