Chilliwack secondary runner Christina Peet-Williams wins provincial championship

Peet-Williams grabbed gold and silver in long distance junior events at the year end meet in Kelowna

Senior, junior and Grade 8 athletes traveled to the Okanagan last week to compete in provincial track and field championships, which were held May 30 to June 1 at the Apple Bowl in Kelowna.

Chilliwack secondary’s Christina Peet- Williams was the most successful local, collecting two podium placements in junior competition.

The teenager captured a B.C. championship in the 3000 metre run, winning a duel with Burnaby Mountain’s Isabelle Brunoro.

Peet-Williams was second in the 1500m run and sixth in the 800m.

Sticking with junior results, Rylan Laurillard (Sardis) reached the podium in the 1500m race-walk, finishing second with a time of 7:46.52.

Sardis teammate Calvin Belanger was close behind in fourth place and Unity Christian’s Levi Van Egdom finished ninth.

Sawyer Collie (UC) was fourth in the 200m dash and seventh in the 100m.

Finn Longhurst (Sardis) was fourth in the 800m run and fifth in the 1500m.

Larissa Cote (Sardis) was fifth in the long jump and 12th in the high jump.

Highroad Academy’s Elijah Grimard placed sixth in the 100m hurdles, but DQed in the 300m.

Jack Johnston (Sardis) was 22nd in the 3000m run.

Brendan Romeyn-Klassen (Sardis) was 24th in the high jump.

Unity teammates Kyle Kampman and Lili Hardy placed 15th and 21st in the 500 gram javelin.

Natanael Haan (Unity) finished seventh in the long jump and 16th in the triple jump.

GW Graham’s Erin Hansen was 18th in the three kilogram shot-put and Unity’s Greg De Raadt was 16th in the 1500m steeplechase.
