The Optimist Club of Chilliwack holds its annual free skate Saturday, from 1 to 2:30 p.m. on the secondary rink at the Chilliwack Coliseum.

“It’s something we do to give back to the kids,” said Optimist Club spokesperson Everett Worth. “It’s something fun for them to do before they head back to school.”

Skate rentals and ice access are free, and participating youths also get a treat. The Optimists do ask for the donation of a non-perishable food item that will be donated to the local food bank.

The Chilliwack Optimist Club is a service club that assists in providing financial and practical support to youth and their families, as well as promoting positive development in various areas such as sports, music and citizenship.
