Chilliwack’s Naomi Britz will curl in Kamloops next month at the B.C. Winter Games.

Britz curled second for Ashley Mallett’s U-16 girls’ rink, which emerged victorious from a Zone 3 playdown last weekend at the Coquitlam Curling Club.

Her team faced Brooklyn Aleksic’s Golden Ears rink in three matches, winning two to move on.

After splitting a pair of draws on Saturday by scores of 11-5 (for Mallett) and 10-2 (for Aleksic), the teams met in a do-or-die showdown Sunday.

Mallett, Britz and teammates Kaelen Coles-Lyster (third), Mackenzie Duffill (lead) and Jensen Recksiedler (fifth) scored three in the opening end and four in the fourth, cruising to a decisive 8-2 win.

Eight girls’ teams will curl in the B.C. Winter Games, which run Feb. 22-25.

More than 2,000 athletes, coaches and officials from all over British Columbia will compete in 19 sports.
