Chilliwack connection to Diego Maffia’s basketball record

Greg DeVries’ mark for points in a high school game stood 28 years before being broken Saturday.

A record-breaking basketball performance has a Chilliwack connection.

Oak Bay secondary student Diego Maffia went off for 96 points in a senior boys high school hoops win over the Ross Sheppard Thunderbirds Saturday.

His insane output topped the previous B.C. record of 82, scored way back in 1991 by LV Rogers (Nelson) gunner Greg DeVries.

If that last name sounds familiar, it’s because DeVries is the father of current Thompson Rivers University player Tyus DeVries.

Greg coached his son when Tyus played for the Sardis Falcons.
