The Chilliwack Chiefs have added a young goalie to the pipeline as the team looks ahead to the 2021-22 BCHL season.

Cole Savage is on board after practicing and playing with Abbotsford’s Yale Academy this season.

The 2003-born stopper got into just two games during this COVID-disrupted campaign, but he showed well, registering a 2.50 goals-against average and 92.2 save percentage for Yale’s U18 prep team, which competes in the Canadian School Sport Hockey League (CSSHL).

Chiefs goaltending coach Mackenzie Skapski said the six-foot and 165 pound keeper has progressed well the last two seasons and his work ethic and character should serve him well as he makes the jump to junior A hockey.

“We are really happy to have Cole join us next season,” added Chiefs hockey boss Brian Maloney. “He is a goaltender who comes highly regarded, and his coaches had nothing but good things to say about his work habits and attitude. We know that the work he will do with Mackenzie Skapski will help him in his transition to the BCHL.”
