The Chilliwack Chiefs have gone international with a player signing from Czechia.

Vit Beran is joining the team for the 2023-24 BCHL season, taking up one of two spots the junior A club can allocate to overseas players.

The 2004-born defenceman has played the past two seasons for HC Litvínov U20. Last year, he notched 10 points in 51 games. The 19-year-old has also suited up for Czechia in 39 games on the international stage.

“We are very excited to add a player of Vit’s calibre to our defense next season,” said Chilliwack hockey boss Brian Maloney in a news release. “He is a big (six-foot-four), strong defender with serious upside, and we look forward to working with him.”

Meanwhile, the team has also added a Canadian forward, inking Winnipeg product Austin Peters.

The 2004-born forward has played the past two years for the Portage Terriers of the Manitoba Junior Hockey League. Last season he collected 20 goals and 62 points in 53 games, placing eighth in league scoring.

“Austin is a player who will step in and contribute at a high level for us right away,” Maloney said. “He’s a veteran of junior hockey and will add great speed and experience to our forward group. He has proven to produce at a high rate and we expect that to continue here. We are really excited to welcome Austin to our program.”
