Chiefs get shutout by North Stars

The Chilliwack Chiefs mustered just 22 shots in a 3-0 loss to the Battlefords North Stars Thursday at the South Okanagan Events Centre.

North Stars goalie Joel Gryzbowski faced 12 of his 22 shots in the third period of their Western Canada Cup match.

The North Stars (Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League champs) opened the scoring at 17:03 of the first period. Cody Spagrud and Levi Kleiboer set up Layne Young, who beat Mathieu Caron. The Chiefs managed just four shots on goal in the period and six in the middle frame.

Despite being outshot 12-10 in the third period, the North Stars got goals by Keaton Holinaty and Young, into an empty net. Caron finished with 23 saves. The North Stars went 0-for-2 on the power play, while the Chiefs were 0-for-3.

The loss drops the Chiefs to 2-2-0 with six points, while the North Stars are in third at one win, two losses and an overtime loss for six points.
