Autosport fans look forward to BC Historic Motor Races

One of the largest events in the Pacific Northwest will see more than 100 cars on the track at the Mission Raceway Park Aug. 20-21.

Chilliwack resident Don Benson will be racing his 1974 Porsche 911RS at the 29th running of B.C. Historic Motor Races on August 20-21

Chilliwack resident Don Benson hits the track at the Mission Raceway Park Aug. 20-21, driving his 1974 Porsche 911RS in the B.C. Historic Motor Races.

This is the 29th version of this event which has run since 1981.

The races were first staged at the famous Westwood track in Coquitlam and then moved to their current home at the multi-purpose racing complex at Mission.

The Vintage Racing Club of British Columbia (VRCBC) hosts the largest vintage race event in Western Canada, with typically 100 vintage and historic racing cars and several thousand spectators in attendance.

This year’s event brings back the popular Hagerty Formula Festival featuring very quick pure bred open wheel and sports racing cars. The schedule also includes a race for vintage and historic sedans and sports cars.

Returning as well for the 2016 event is the ‘Ride in a Real Racing Car’ event where fans can (for a nominal contribution) go for a ride on the track with an actual racing driver in one of the day’s cars during a dedicated period held over the lunch break each of the two event days.

A 120-car display will be featured in a special spectator area, known as the ‘ADESA Field of Dreams.’

Sponsor booths will offer everything from automobilia and artwork to automotive product displays.
