Arenacross venue to get air care

A popular event gets a breath of fresh air with an air-circulation upgrade at Heritage Park.

The home of Canadian Arenacross in Chilliwack, Heritage Park Arena, will be given a breath of fresh air before the bikes roll in in November.

A brand new permanent high-volume roof extract fan system being installed. The system includes five fans to help circulate air.

In the past, temporary floor fans were brought in to do the same job.

All of the doors in the facility were opened to allow the air movement, which led to a very cold venue. The new system means all of the doors, with the exception of one, will be closed.

The air will constantly be changed and extracted through the high-volume roof fans, giving the spectators and riders a warmer and cleaner air experience.

“It’s a great development and a much appreciated investment by Tourism Chilliwack, who now manage the facility,” said event organiser John Hellam. “It also demonstrates that the facility management and the community welcome and support our events.”

Arenacross has utilized Heritage Park as a venue since 2001.

“It has always been a great facility for our events and the addition of the new ventilation system will now make it a perfect venue for our events, and many other types of events held in the facility,” Hellam enthused. “The upgrade will dramatically improve the experience for spectators and competitors alike.”

The 2012-13 Arenacross schedule includes four Chilliwack weekends.

The season opens Oct. 19-20 at the Cloverdale Agriplex.

The first Chilliwack date is Nov. 2-3.

Arenacross is back the following week (Nov. 9-10) and returns for two more weekends in 2013 (Jan. 18-19 and Feb. 1-2).

The season ends Feb. 8-9 back in Cloverdale.
