Academic ace paces Simon Fraser cross-country team

Lorenzo Smith takes the student part of student-athlete seriously enough to have been an all-academic leader three years running.

For the third straight year, Lorenzo Smith led all cross country runners with the highest cumulative grade point average among student-athletes selected to the 2016 Great Northwest Athletic Conference Cross Country All-Academic Team.Smith, a senior from Chilliwack, carries a 4.17 grade point average while pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Physiology. A 4.00 GPA is considered an A and 4.33 is an A+. Smith achieved the highest GPA among 104 male and female cross country runners.Smith was joined on the team by Simon Fraser teammates Rowan Doherty of West Vancouver, Marc-Antoine Rouleau of Sherbrooke, Que, and Erina Cho of Coquitlam. To qualify for selection to the GNAC Cross Country All-Academic Team, a student-athlete must be of sophomore standing or better and have a 3.38 cumulative grade point average. The SFU cross country men, ranked sixth nationally, will be competing Nov. 5 in the 2016 NCAA West Region championship, hosted by Montana State University Billings.See athletics.sfu.ca
