Highway 1 is closed to all traffic northeast of Spences Bridge due to an accident just before 10 a.m. Thursday.

A semi-trailer rolled over and shed its load on Highway 1 northeast of Spences Bridge shortly after 9:30 a.m. on October 13, closing the highway in both directions for several hours. Shortly before 1 p.m. Thursday the road was opened to single lane alternating traffic only.

Emergency services, including Ashcroft Fire Rescue, attended the accident site. The Ministry of the Environment has also been contacted, to assess any environmental issues caused by material leaking from the semi-trailer.

There is no word as to when the highway will be reopened to traffic. Drivers detouring via Highway 99 are advised that it is single-lane alternating traffic only through the 10 Mile Slide site, and that heavy loads are not permitted due to a 50 per cent load restriction.
