Highway robbery

It seems dishonest that the oil companies overcharge for gasoline all the time. On Sunday in Abbotsford, I filled up at $1.47 a litre while the gas in Chilliwack was $1.75. Very often the gas will jump by 7-10 cents per litre and go down and the up again, day by day. One would think that our wonderful government would do something to stop this highway robbery.

Why the high prices?

We noticed the gas price in Chilliwack was 1.65.9 the morning  of April 7 as we headed to Abbotsford. We filled up at Costco for 1.47.9 a litre. Gas in Keremeos this morning is 1.43.9 a litre. Do we have extra taxes in Chilliwack we don't know of? Otherwise, how do you explain the difference?

Re: Carbon Tax & Gas prices

Much like the vast majority of British Columbians, I was pleased to learn of the scrapping of carbon taxes. Prior to its cancellation, gas prices earlier this week (1 April to be exact), in Chilliwack was about $174.9.

Once the tax was removed the following day, gas prices at most stations decreased to about $160.9. Today (Sat. 5 April), gas prices have risen to $175.9 city-wide.

It's interesting to note that, gas in Hope is $167.9, in Abbotsford is $159.9, Langley is $165.9 and, surprisingly, Vancouver $167.9 (these prices are courtesy of the Gas Buddy app).

So…can someone explain to me why gas is more expensive here in Chilliwack (at $175.9/litre) than the rest of the Lower Mainland? It's more expensive now than before the carbon tax was removed.

With the way things are going with tariffs, we British Columbians and Canadians in general are being encouraged to buy local - whether it be buy local, buy B.C., and buy Canadian. I’d prefer to buy local as much as possible but, why do I feel that local fuel retailers are gouging us? How was gas cheaper before the removal of carbon tax? Seriously…it's not even a long weekend!

I’ve written the BC Utilities Commission - they monitor gas prices not set them as well as Premier Eby, and finally, Mayor Popove.

Perhaps someone can explain the rationale behind the higher gas prices…or is this a case of “well, the station across the street raised their price, we just followed).

Sincerely,
Garry Thomas

Oil cartels

Three days after our carbon tax was lifted, gas prices went up 15¢ today, and that across the board!

Fraudulently, GasBuddy.com and others are still reporting prices of 160.9¢ across town!

It looks like the oil cartels are 'in bed' with the government, redirecting now our carbon tax in their pockets!

Just a question

Why are the gas companies gouging us with their prices?

Not a coincidence

I notice the price of gas has risen by the same amount the carbon tax is supposed to be reduced by.

Is this a case of gas company gouging or some other reason? I offer the former for the reason. It certainly can’t be a coincidence.
