I just read the article about swimming lessons and lack of life guards (see page 1 in this edition of The Progress, and online at www.theprogress.com.)

I am a senior with arthritis and the only pool that’s warm enough for people like me is the wave pool side at the Landing Leisure Centre. Their physiotherapy sessions start at 9:30 a.m. three mornings a week. I find this very early as I can’t move too quickly. I started going, only to find out they weren’t allowing us to use the ‘adult’ hot tub. We had to use the ‘family’ hot tub which is not near as hot. The heat is very therapeutic for most of the people who were doing their physio in the pool.

The frustrating part was that we had one lifeguard who figured out how they could watch us in the adult hot tub, but the next time we were told we couldn’t use it.

We really need more to help our seniors who benefit greatly from exercising in the pool and soaking in the hot tubs.
