Re: 'Seniors left behind by changes in Sardis,' Readers Write, Chilliwack Progress, Nov. 8, 2024.
I don't know if letter writer Dianne Darke is a senior, like I am, like most of my neighbours as well.
But I suggest a history lesson about the meaning of Sardis, which derives from the beauty and the ancient Greek city by the same name. Sardis was renowned for its strong cultural heritage, fresh waterways, lakes, trade, minerals, mountains, good government, agriculture, commanding acropolis.
That ancient Sardis would be ranked #1 on today's livability index.
The new bike lakes allow us seniors to be safe when we walk to the mall, or walk our dogs, or walk the trail, yes.
But did you not have in your calculation that people with disabilities can now be safe with their scooters? Did you have in your calculation there are young families in these neighbourhoods with children who ride bikes?
I can understand that driving requires focus on what's ahead of the windshield, but there are people on the sides of the road as well!
These long overdue road improvements not only benefit seniors, but all generations as well.
