It is unfair that the B.C. government is requiring private-sector employers to provide only five paid sick days annually and the federal government is requiring federally-regulated private-sector employers to provide only 10 paid sick days annually to their employees.

However, governments feel that workers in the public sector and at government-owned public agencies deserve up to 18 paid sick days annually, plus several other paid days off work at the taxpayers’ expense.

Many private-sector workers would love to be employed in the public-sector. However, there are not enough public-sector jobs available to employ everyone who wants one.
