LETTER: City’s ‘no parking’ signs on cul-de-sac that is never plowed make no sense

‘The last big snowfall we had, I spent almost three hours with the neighbours clearing the cul-de-sac’

I would like to send a big thank you to the City of Chilliwack for installing “No Parking” signs in the cul-de-sac on Andrews Avenue, and for threatening us with routine enforcement checks.

I would also like to thank the city for having the audacity to claim that it’s to ensure easier waste collection and plowing. Never mind that the two lovely young gentlemen next door place everybody’s garbage cans in one spot for easy collection. The plowing claim is especially asinine given that in my decade of living here, I have not seen a single snow plow. The last big snowfall we had, I spent almost three hours with the neighbours clearing the cul-de-sac, only to have to deal with a buildup of snow at the mouth of the road, thanks to plows travelling down Broadway.

Since you have now used my tax dollars to ensure any guests I have will have to park at the church a block over, perhaps now you can start actually serving the street? The asphalt is so torn up that it’s treacherous to walk on, and we are guaranteed to still have snow and ice on our road for at least a week after everywhere else has thawed.

I guess what I’m saying is that you shouldn’t be able to tell us where we can park on your road if you don’t care enough to maintain it.

Ross Keith
