In the article entitled Trustees urged to leave hiring to staff, June 2, 2001I, I was misquoted. When asked about the timing of hiring a new Superintendent in relation to all the positions that had currently been vacated and the concerns I had expressed, I am quoted correctly as saying “When we have had so many people leaving, you have to ask what’s going on, what are the problems, what can we do to fix them?” However the next line quotes me as saying that the “trustees could hold down the fort.” What I said, quite clearly, was that we had many good people in the Board Office who were very capable of holding down the fort.
The changes I suggested to the hiring policy are not unique or strange. They are taken from examples of other districts and their hiring policies including Abbotsford, Coquitlam and Vancouver.
We all need to work together for the benefit of the students in the school district.
