Yvonne passed away peacefully in her 87th year on March 18, 2004 at the Chilliwack General hospital. Prior to this, she had enjoyed her residence in Crystal Ridge Manor, Chilliwack.
Yvonne was born on March 21, 1916 in Duck Lake, Sask. She moved to East Chilliwack in 1918 with her parents Pierre and Maria Sache and family. Yvonne married Les Russell in 1937. They lived in Vancouver before returning to Rosedale where they farmed for many years. On their retirement they took up residence in Chilliwack.
Her hands were always busy. She spent many hours on her embroidery, knitting and crocheting, which was often entered in the Chilliwack Fall Fair and won awards. Yvonne was a long time member and worker for the Catholic Women’s League and the Chilliwack Plowing Society. In her later years she enjoyed her volunteer work for St. Vincent’s Thrift Store.
Yvonne is survived by her sisters Odylle Cheramy and Alice Hewer and sister-in-law Dorothy Sache as well as many nieces and nephews and families who were all such an important part of her life. She was predeceased by her husband, Les, in 1993. She was also predeceased by seven brothers and six sisters.
In celebration of Yvonne’s life a funeral mass was celebrated on Saturday, March 21, 2004 at the St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church and cremation followed. Her nephews served as pallbearers. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of choice.
