William (Bill), John SPERLING

On Aug. 25, 2004, William (Bill) John Sperling formerly of Chilliwack, passed away peacefully at the Lacombe Hospital at 80 years of age. Bill was born on Feb. 13, 1924, in Chamberlain, SK.

In 1994, Bill and his wife, Esther, moved to Lacombe where they became parishioners at St. Stephen’s Catholic Church.

Bill was a Life Member in the Knights of Columbus and performed many charitable works. Bill was predeceased by his mother, Marion Sperling, in 1987, and his father, John Sperling, in 1990, both of Chilliwack, BC, and a sister, Agatha Christine in 1930.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Esther; daughters Virginia Albanese (Mike) of Marina del Rey, CA; Patti Dickson (Pat) of Maple Ridge, BC; Gina Hesketh (Jim) of Victoria, BC; Maureen Colbeck (Brian) of Coquitlam, BC; Audrey Migvar of Olds, AB; and Debbie Nieuwenhuis (Lambert) of Lacombe, AB; 14 grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren, siblings Helen Sidney of Vernon, BC; Bertha Kreger (Herb) of Kamloops, BC; Ray Sperling ( Phyll) of Chilliwack, BC; Bob Sperling (Doris) of Sardis, BC, Norm Sperling (Pat) of Peachland, BC; and Maurice Sperling (Emily) of Vernon, B.C.

The family would like to say a special thank you to Dr’s. R. Keller and B. Kinash, and all the nursing staff in Unit B at Lacombe Hospital who took sich good care of him for the last two months.

Family and friends are invited to Prayer Services to be held at St. Stephen’s Catholic Church, 5128-53 St., Lacombe on Sunday, Aug. 29, 2004 at 7:00 p.m.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Stephen’s Catholic Church, Lacombe on Monday Aug. 30 at 11:00 a.m.

Interment will follow in the Lacombe Fairview Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alberta Cancer Foundation c/o Cross Cancer Institute, 11560 University Ave, Edmonton, AB T6G 1Z2 or to the Lacombe Palliative Care Society, Box 5576, Lacombe, AB T4L 1X2.
