September 14, 1922 - September 6, 2020
William Baerg passed away peacefully on September 6, 2020 just a few days short of his 98th birthday. He was born in Ukraine in 1922 and arrived in Canada with his family in 1927, settling in McCreary Manitoba. He moved to BC in 1945, and settled in Greendale where he built his first house. He married Helen Isaak in 1948, and they moved into their new home two days before the Fraser River dyke broke and their home was under water. That was the first of many challenges they faced together. Bill loved working with cars, both as a mechanic and body man and did that for many years before he started dairy farming. In 1959 Bill and Helen bought a dairy farm on Prairie Central Road, where they farmed for three decades and raised their five daughters and one son. After retiring in 1988, Bill spent the next twelve years restoring old cars, all of them Fords. Bill and Helen loved to travel and saw much of Canada and the USA with their motorhome. Those RV trips came to a sudden end in July of 2000, when Helen passed away suddenly. In 2001, he married Marge Hooge and relocated to Abbotsford, where they enjoyed life together for many years. Marge passed away in January of 2019. Bill moved back to Chilliwack and made his home at Birchwood retirement residence this past while.
Bill enjoyed spending time with friends and always had one more story to tell. He was an enthusiastic fan (and virtual coach) of the Blue Jays and the Canucks. He was always willing to help others and could fix most any problem. He loved to play Rook. Most of all, Bill loved his family and had a deep faith in God.
He was predeceased by his wife of 52 years, Helen Baerg; his second wife, Marge Baerg; his great-granddaughter, Hannah Wiebe; and his oldest daughter, Beverley Baerg (just one week earlier). He will be lovingly remembered by his children: Judy (Elmer) Wiebe; Dorothy (Terry) Dirks, Mary Ellen Baerg, Kathy (Jim) Duerksen and Bill (Jeanne) Baerg as well as 21 grandchildren and 30 great grandchildren. He is survived by three brothers, Ike, Ben and Dave Baerg and his sister Sue Unruh and is fondly remembered by numerous nieces, nephews and Marge's family. A private graveside ceremony will be held on September 12 at Greendale Cemetery.
