GIERZY, Wasylyna

Passed away on August 27, in her 93rd year at Eden Care Centre in Chilliwack. From humble beginnings in the Ukraine, she remained true to her heritage while becoming a fiercely proud Canadian who loved her chosen country. Mom lived life simply. She arrived in Chilliwack with her husband, Joseph in 1979 from Terrace, BC. Both were involved with the Ukrainian Catholic Church attending masses, helping out at bake sales/fundraising and forming friendships. Mom enjoyed gardening and was a fantastic cook. In 1995 Joseph passed away suddenly while they were visiting their homeland. It was a difficult transition for mom, but eventually she began to enjoy the fun times again. She liked bingo, casinos and going to the horse races. Her family was her world. She stayed connected to the church until its closure. Mom cherished her home and relied on family to help her stay in it for as long as she could. In April she moved to Eden Care Centre where her strength and determination stayed with her until the end. We will miss her but are grateful for the long life she lived and the many memories we have to share. Lovingly remembered by her daughter Maria Godart (Cal), son Joseph Prokopchuk (June) and granddaughter Joanne Hedley (Brad). On September 1st, Mom was laid to rest at a family graveside service, Chilliwack Cemetery. We would like to thank the staff at Eden Care Centre, Dr. Esau and Henderson's Funeral Home for the care they gave mom. Vichnaya Pamyat (Everlasting Memory).
