Walter Weigelmann passed away suddenly on Friday May 14, 2021 in Chilliwack at the age of 83.
He is predeceased by his parents Richard and Meta Weigelmann, wife Marlene and son in-law Andy Verdonk. Walter is survived by his children Mighele and grandchildren Ryan, Mishauna (Kevin) and great grandchildren Kolton, Chace and Beckham; daughter Denise (Geoff) and grandchildren Sara and Mitchell; and son Rick (Pauline) and grandchildren Tahya, Kijana and Devin.
Walter was born in Alt-Alexandrowske, Ukraine. Walter's dream was to come to Canada and start a new life for himself and eventually brought his family to Chilliwack. He immigrated to Canada in 1957.
He then met Marlene and they were married in Chilliwack in 1960. Walter's first trade in Europe was a blacksmith and farrier, he then moved on to heavy equipment which eventually became Walter's Bulldozing & Repairs Ltd.
They lived in Greendale on a small farm for 47 years where they ran their business and raised their children those were the best years of their lives.
In 2018 they sold the farm and moved to a gated community in Sardis.
Walter took great pride in his family, also Walter and Marlene's cherished their very close friends over the years. They especially enjoyed their 6 week trip to Alaska in 1996. Walter adored his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He loved fishing, hunting and supporting Ducks Unlimited events and supported many other community events.
Walter was the muscle behind their successful businesses Walter's Bulldozing & Repairs Ltd. and Timberline Air. In 1984 - 1986 Walter's Bulldozing & Repairs took part in the construction of the Coquihalla Highway for Expo 1986. Walter worked away from home for many years up the coast of BC in various logging camps, up until 1997. Walter and Marlene worked as a team together all their lives and their devotion to each other never went unnoticed.
Walter was well known throughout the community always had a story to tell and will be dearly missed by all who knew him. He will be greatly missed by his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
