Waldo FISCHER

March 4, 2004

Waldo Fischer, born Sept. 26, 1921, passed away at Chilliwack General Hospital March 4, 2004 at the age of 82.

Waldo was born in California, and moved to Oklahoma at the age of 1, and then to Laird Saskatchewan, where he was raised on the family farm.

He is survived by his three sons, Brian (Cathy), Gerald (Heidi), Tim, granddaughter Samantha, and many nieces and nephews. He is pre-deceased by his wife of more than 50 years, Netti, and his siblings Reuben Fischer, Dora Harder, and Rosella Epp.

Waldo was a devoutly religious man and a member for many years at the Chilliwack Alliance Church, and in his younger years, sang in the church choir and sat on the church board.

Waldo found his calling in life when he went for ice cream at the soda fountain in a drug store in Saskatoon, and the local pharmacist talked him into taking up his future profession. He attended the University of Saskatchewan where he received his degree in Pharmacy, and then moved to Vancouver to find work. He married Netti in New Westminster in 1948, and then moved to Chilliwack in 1949 where he opened his own drug store, which was a fixture in town for many years until his retirement in the early 80’s.

Waldo and Netti loved to travel, and made numerous road trips throughout Canada and the U.S., finding long lost relatives wherever they went. They also made a number of overseas trips to the Far East.

A funeral service will be held at Henderson’s Funeral Home in Chilliwack at 1 p.m. Monday, March 8, followed by interment at Vedder View Cemetery, with a tea to follow at the Chilliwack Alliance Church. A viewing will be held at Henderson’s from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. If friends so desire, donations may be made to The Alzheimers Society.
