March 4, 1930 - August 13, 2020
Violet (Vi) was born in Canora, Saskatchewan to Tom and Dolly Elchuk. Violet enjoyed her teenage years picking fruit in the Kelowna orchards with her Dad, playing on baseball and basketball teams, and dancing. Her family moved to Chilliwack in 1947. Violet graduated as a Registered Nurse from Deaconess Hospital, Wenatchee, Washington. It was at a dance in Chilliwack where she met Philip (Phil) Monty Edwards, whom she married in 1951.

Violet was a Chilliwack United Church member and volunteer, a Chilliwack White Cane Club volunteer and a 45 year member and volunteer with the Chilliwack Lions Club, where she worked many years along with Phil at the Chilliwack Music Festival and Lions Club Flea Market. As well as attending the Lions International Convention in Japan with her dear husband Phil in 1969, Vi enjoyed travels to Hawaii, Yuma, Arizona, Alaska, Quebec City and Europe.
Vi was active in a bowling league in the 1950's and 1960's and later golfed her way to Meadowlands Golf and Country Club Ladies Champion and served many years as Ladies Club Captain. Violet enjoyed baking, sewing, cross-stitching, crocheting, knitting, Chinese checkers, Majong, puzzles, the company of her friends and neighbours and was passionate about gardening and especially her love for her family.
Predeceased by her brother Tommy, son David (1990), parents Tom and Dolly Elchuk, husband Phil (2008), sister Ethel (2019), brothers-in-law Karl Snider and George Henry (2020) and son-in-law Rick (2017). Lovingly remembered by children Gail Thomas, Bob Edwards (Joanne), Laurie Taylor; sister Shirley Henry, brother Larry Elchuk (Darlene); grandchildren Bobby (Amanda), Davey, Natasha and Britney (Diamond), and great-grandson Dougy.
Special thanks to Dr Kenneth Harder, Dr Elizabeth Wu, Dr Cindy Ding, Joan Hirst, whom Vi regarded as "the best friend and best neighbour" who gave many years of her time helping Vi and frequently driving her home from Chilliwack Hospital and to cardiology appointments in New Westminster, and Terry and Kim Seekins.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Vi's memory may be made to the Royal Columbian Hospital Foundation, New Westminster, BC (where Vi underwent her pancreatic cancer surgery 16 years ago and cardio procedures) or Holmberg House, 32780 Marshall Rd, Abbotsford, BC, V2S 1J7 (hospice where Vi spent the last day of her life).
Due to CoViD restrictions, no memorial service is planned at this time.
