Verva Joy CHALKE

January 27, 2006

Verva Joy Chalke was born in Outlook, Saskatchewan on March 21, 1918 and passed away on January 27, 2006 on Salt Spring Island where she had been living for the past 8 years. Previously she had lived in Victoria and Chilliwack with her husband, Harry, who predeceased her in 1986.

Verva is survived by her two daughters, Donna Allan (Richard) and Anne Byrne (Michael), three grandchildren; David Allan (Jeannie Blyth), Michelle Konschuh (Dale), Derek Byrne (Lisa) and three great-grandchildren, Jessica, Tianna and Cole. She was also predeceased by grandson Michael Allan and brothers Bob, Jack and Bill Reid.

Verva enjoyed music and played the piano in her earlier years. From spring training camp to the World Series there were very few baseball games that she missed watching on TV. She knitted and crocheted many treasurers for herself and her family. She was a member of the United Church in Victoria and Salt Spring and enjoyed the friendship and kindness at Cooke’s Presbyterian Church in Chilliwack. She was a kind and gentle soul and will be greatly missed.

A special thanks to Dr. R. Crichton and the staff at Greenwood’s Intermediate Care and the Lady Minto Gulf Islands Hospital Extended Care staff on Salt Spring Island for their compassionate care over the past seven years.

A Service of Remembrance will be held at Henderson’s Funeral Home on Saturday, February 4, 2006 at 2:00 pm with Reverend Art Anderson officiating. Interment at Odd Fellows Cemetery. A private family gathering will follow.
