In the early afternoon of March 11, 2020 Verna lost her battle with cancer and was called home by the Lord Jesus. Verna was born on May 7, 1931 along with her twin brother Bill in
Rosetown, Sask. She spent her early years in the village of Herschel, Sask. In 1947, after the death of her father Johan in 1946, the family moved to Chilliwack where she resided till her death. Verna was predeceased by her mother Helen Matthies, her stepfather Peter Matthies, her husband Harold Schmidt, her brothers Bill and Bruno and her nephew Kenneth Wedler. She is survived by her daughter Mary and her brother John (Lorraine) Wedler and 2 nieces and 6 nephews. Verna graduated from Chilliwack high School in 1950 and from the
business college in 1951. She worked in the administration offices of Eaton's, Chilliwack Realty, Dr. Jantzen, and later delivered rural mail with her husband and daughter Mary.
