Vera Sinclair THEAL

October 13, 2010

May 10, 1918 - Oct. 13, 2010

Vera was born in Sumas, Washington to Alic Purvis and Minnie Plaxton, residents of Huntingdon, BC. She passed away at the age of 92 at the Waverly, Chilliwack.

Shortly after her birth, Vera’s mother died, a victim of the 1918 flu epidemic. Her father, a BC Electric Railway employee took Vera to live with relatives in Revelstoke where he met and married a widow, Olive Hay Sturdy. The family returned to Huntingdon. They eventually settled in Chilliwack where Vera attended Chilliwack High School and in Grade 12 was the school’s first Girls’ Senior Ring.

Vera married her high school sweetheart, Winfield “Wink” Theal in 1941. They resided in Chilliwack most of the 63 years of their marriage, other than an interesting few years prior to retirement at Sporing Creek, Harrison Lake, where they were employed by Canfor Logging. Prior to moving to Spring Creek, Vera worked at several retail locations in town, and was a personal shopper and manager at Jennifers Ladies Wear for some time.

Vera was a member of PEO Chapter R for more than 50 years. She and Wink were both active in Kin and Kinettes. They spent several winters on the Algarve in Portugal. Vera was an excellent cook and they loved to entertain their wide circle of friends.

Vera was predeceased by her husband, Wink, in October 2004. Other than friends, Vera is survived by her God-sons, Stephen Millen, John Brolin, David Henderson, and Wink’s God-daughter Carmie Devlin and family. By request, no service will be held. If friends so desire, donations in Vera’s memory may be made to the Chilliwack General Hospital Foundation, the Chilliwack Foundation, or BC Children’s Hospital Foundation.
