After a lengthy illness, Vera Janzen passed away at the Cascade Hospice Centre on December 1st, 2008 at the age of 79. Vera is survived by her son Ken (Helen), grandsons Russ (Missi) Janzen, granddaughter Nicole (Adam) Compton, and great-granddaughter Adrianna Janzen, sisters Erna Ford and Laura (Jack) Hodges, nieces Lillian (Gus) Weigleman and Brenda Janzen, nephew Terry Ford, and sister-in-law Marge Janzen. She was predeceased by her husband Johnny in 1976 after 28 years of marriage.
Vera Janzen was born in Steinbeck, Manitoba in 1929. In 1931, her family moved to Greendale, British Columbia where she grew up. After marrying in 1948, Vera and her husband owned and operated a 10-acre berry farm. In 1949, Vera gave birth to her only child, Ken (‘Butch’). After approximately 15 years, Vera and her family relocated to Sardis where she began working for Dairyland, which turned into 28 years of employment. After her retirement in 1992, Vera spent most of her time enjoying her grandchildren.
Vera Janzen was a proud woman who valued her independence and truly loved her family. She possessed a caring nature and was always a supportive influence. Vera was, and always will be loved by her family. She will be greatly missed.

A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, December 5th 2008 at 11:00 a.m. from the Chapel at Henderson’s Funeral Home. Burial to follow at Chilliwack Cemeteries. A family viewing will be held Thursday, December 4th at Henderson’s Funeral Home – 45901 Victoria Avenue, Chilliwack, between 7 and 9 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Cascade Hospice Society in memory of Vera Janzen.
