Velma passed away peacefully on Monday, May 9th, 2011, at the Cascade Hospice in Chilliwack at the age of 76.

Velma was born in North Vancouver on April 28, 1935. She was an only child, born to Eva Annie and Theal James Elliott. She is survived by her loving husband of 56 years, Jack Kouwenhoven, her three sons, Raymond (Linda), Gordon, Barry (Lisa), her five grandchildren, Laurel, Joel, Riley, Connor and Kyle, and stepsisters Leona Robinson, Donna Ziegler, Sharon Robinson and stepbrother David Robinson.

Velma was predeceased by her mother and father, stepmother Edith Robinson and stepsister Shirley Woolford.

Velma had a wide circle of good friends; many from the garden club, the wine club and the line dancing group. She was much loved by many people. With her gentle and quiet ways she touched many lives and she will be greatly missed and fondly remembered.

Our family would like to extend our thanks to Dr. Bull and all the staff at Cascade Hospice for making Velma’s last few days very comfortable. A celebration of Velma’s life will be held in her garden on Saturday, June 18th from 1:00 to 4:30 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of your choice. Velma’s favourite charity was World Vision.
