Thomas Augustinus Bowen

In his own words, it’s been a wonderful life! A great man has left us. Thomas Augustinus Bowen Larson, a man of honour, integrity and dignity, died July 24, 2003 in Chilliwack in his 91st year.

A man whose life mirrored his deep-felt convictions, a man without pretensions. Tom was deeply devoted to his sweetheart of almost 70 years, to his family, to his friends. He had a joy of life and brought sunshine into the lives of those around him. His humour, his laughter, his golden smile and his interest in people were his trademarks to his last day.

Long-time manager of Bank of Montreal, Tom’s banking career spanned five decades starting in Westlock in 1929, then transferring to communities in Alberta and BC (Vancouver, Gibsons, Williams Lake, Kitimat) until retiring in Chilliwack in 1976. He joined the RCAF as wireless air gunner trainee, became navigator and was posted to Ancien, then 133 Squadron in Pat Bay.

His involvements with service to the community started as a young man and continued all his life—scouting, Masonic Lodge, Gizeh Temple, Shrine, Rotary, Air Force Association, Legion, Kinsmen, Elks, Chamber of Commerce and his church.

Born Nov. 26, 1912 in Cardiff, AB, Tom was predeceased by his beloved Laura, and is survived by his son, George Larson of Gibsons; daughter, Lillian Lusk of Pitt Meadows; grandson, Loren Maclean of Vancouver; sister, Mavis Guest of Boundary Bay; and his special friend, Marion Claxton of Chilliwack.

Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Aug. 6, 2003 at St. Thomas Anglican Church, 46048 Gore Avenue, Chilliwack. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Heart & Stroke Foundation or Shriners Hospital for Crippled Children.

A very special man, he will live on in our hearts always.
