(Compeau)

At the age of 91, Sylvia peacefully passed away on Saturday, November 28, 2009 at the Cascade Hospice Care Facility with family by her side. A family graveside service officiated by Henderson’s Funeral Home was held December 7th.

Sylvia was born October 25, 1918 in Chilliwack, B.C. She loved to share her “pioneer” stories of the area. She was a quiet, shy girl who helped around the home caring for seniors. Weekend fun was to bike ride to Mt. Cheam and hike the mountain with friends. After her first marriage, they moved to Vancouver for a number of years, where she went to sewing school and became an excellent seamstress.

She and her son returned to Chilliwack in 1964.

She worked for many years in the old coliseum on Corbould selling hockey tickets for the original Chilliwack Bruins or in the concession stand serving many youngsters who came to skate. She also worked in the Saan store on Wellington and later at Sears.

She worked hard to provide for her son and always found time to care for others as well. She found joy in looking after her home and garden. She loved to sew, knit and chat.

She married John MacLean on November 28, 1987 where they lived quietly on Garden Drive. How appropriate when she loved flowers and gardens. She passed away on their 22nd anniversary.

She was predeceased by her parents, Robert and Doris Compeau in the 60’s and her brother Howard in 2002.

She is survived by her husband John, her son Terry Laviolette, her niece Cherrie Coombes (Bill), her nephew Bob Compeau (Sharon), nephew Barry (Elaine) Baker, great-nephew Brian Coombes (Leanne), great-great-nephew and niece Carson and Miranda, and great-niece Charlene Coombes. John’s two daughters Isabel Rikely, Ann Miller and their extended families.

Memorial donations gratefully accepted at Cascade Hospice, 45586 McIntosh Drive, Chilliwack, B.C. V2P 4W8 or Chilliwack Animal Safe Haven Society, 49843 Chilliwack Central Road, Chilliwack, B.C. V2P 6H3.
