On the morning of February 4th, in her 99th year, Susanne passed away quietly and with grace, as was her style. Susanne was born in Herbert, Saskatchewan in 1923, just 4 months after her family had fled post revolution southern Russia, ( now Ukraine). She was raised in Saskatoon and later Rosthern, where she attended Rosthern Academy, and where Susanne met her future husband, Jacob (Jack) Kope. She received her teaching certificate and spent a short, but memorable time teaching grades 1-8 at a one room schoolhouse, before being called home to care for her ailing mother. Jack and Sue married in 1944 and after the war, with their first born daughter, Patricia, moved to Vancouver, where Jack received his teaching degree. In 1951 the family moved to Campbell River where daughter, Teresa, was born. In 1953, Jack and Sue planted their roots in Chilliwack, which would be their home for a half century. A third daughter, Judy, was born. Sue spent these years giving her time and energy to family, friends and her community. Her abundant generosity was bestowed upon many in numerous charitable organizations, most notably the P.E.O. Sisterhood. After Jack's retirement, Sue continued her volunteer work, while still managing to throw legendary dinner parties and living up to her reputation as "The Hostess with the Mostest". She took great joy in being a grandmother. A visit to Grannie's was always a treat. Shortly after Jack's death in 2006, to be closer to family, Sue moved to The Residence at Morgan Heights in South Surrey, her home for over 11 years. Susanne is survived by a large, loving, and much loved family, including her precious grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, special friends and her three "girls" Patricia Field ( Edward) Teresa Kope (deceased husband David Konnert) Jude Hannah ( Don Beall)
A Celebration Of Life will be held on Saturday, April 2, 2022 @ 12 Noon at Cheam View United Church 45835 Spadina Avenue Chilliwack.
