It is with great sadness the family announces the passing of their much-loved mother, Oma, and Aunt on December 9, 2008 at the Chilliwack General Hospital at the age of 88. She was born in Deutsch St. Peter, Romania on December 19, 1919.
She and her husband lived working their farmland in Gelu, Romania until they immigrated to Canada in 1960. They settled in Cochenour, Ontario before heading west to live in Chilliwack.
Susanna is survived by her son Hans (Marvia) Hickli of Chilliwack, BC; and daughter-in-law, Leonore Hickli (son Frank’s widow) of Victoria, BC; eight grandchildren: Michael (Heather) Hickli of Abbotsford, BC, Peter (Maxine) Hickli of Surrey, BC, Monica Dawson of Edmonton, AB, Barbara LePage of Campbell River, BC, Carolyn Grant of Kimberley, BC, Frank (Leanne) Hickli of Calgary, AB, Suzanne Tyrrell of Chilliwack, BC, John Hickli of Victoria, BC; 19 great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren and also survived by nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends from far and wide.
Susanna was predeceased by her husband, Michael Hickli, son Frank Hickli and brother Hans Lupp.
Susanna was a kind, gentle lady who will be remembered for her wonderful cooking, her ability to grow a garden to feed the neighbourhood, her love for dogs, her hospitality and for her loving kindness to her family and friends. She will be dearly missed.
The family would like to express their gratitude to Dr. Gordon Enns, NU5 Nursing Home Support, and Hampton House Staff.
Funeral Services will be held at the St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, 8909 Mary Street, Chilliwack, on Tuesday, December 16, 2008 at 12:00 p.m. Viewing for family and friends will be held on Monday, December 15, 2008 from 4 to 5 p.m. at Henderson’s Funeral Home, 45901 Victoria Avenue, Chilliwack.
Tea will be served at Hampton House, 45555 Hodgins Avenue, following the Church Service. Burial will be at Chilliwack Cemeteries.
In lieu of flowers donations to the Chilliwack General Hospital Redevelopment Project, ”A Campaign for Health Care Excellence”, 45600 Menholm Road, Chilliwack, BC V2P 1P7 or a Charity of Choice.
