It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, brother and uncle after a 3-month battle with brain cancer.
Steve was born December 17, 1953, in Princeton BC to parents Joseph and Beryl Ell. The family moved to
various places in BC finally settling in Chilliwack in 1967.
Steve graduated from Chilliwack Senior Secondary in 1972 and was member of the Chilliwack Frontiersmen
Football team. He was MVP for Defensive Player in 1972. After graduating, Steve went on to become a meatcutter. He started at Irvings Shop Easy,went on to SuperValu, Safeway, Costco, and retired from Johnston's Butcher Shop.
In addition to being a football player, Steve loved his baseball and played in the ChilliwackMinor Baseball League for many years. He later went on to coach for many years and shared his love of baseball with so many players.
He was a long-time member of the Mark V fastball team where he forged lifelong friendships that have lasted to this day. He then continued with the Ells Outlaws 2 pitch team for many years and got to play with his nieces and nephews.
Though Steve had never learned to skate, he loved the game of hockey and shared that withMatthew and many young hockey players in the Chilliwack Minor Hockey Association, watching them learn and improve their hockey skills throughout the years.
Steve is survived by the loves of his life, wife Colleen, daughter Emily Hamilton (Kyle), son Matthew (Breya). Sisters and brothers Lorraine Reglin (Rudy), Diane Dayton, Ken (Joan), Shirley Lynch (Derrick), Beryl Kemp
(Doug), Ed (Maxine), John (Lana), Edna (Phil), Donna Finch (Robin), David (Theresa) Mother-in-law Bev Heron, Brother and sisters-in-law Jon Heron, Shelleen Harwood, Jackie Heron. Nieces and nephews Kevin Skalicky
(Rosie),Mike Skalicky, Joey Baird,Monica Burt (Jamie), Christina Smith (Jeff), Stefanie Ell, Tom Martin (Loretta), Cheryl Martin (Claude), Jennifer Kemp, Jason Kemp (Leanna), Nicole Reid (Tyler), Jessica Ell (Tony), Ashley Finch, Brennan Finch (Jasper), Chelsea Ell, Amanda Ell (DeanWilliams), Halina and Marley Heron,Megan Harwood, Ryan Harwood (Courtney), Justin Harwood (Jessi), Samantha Nelles, Alexandria and Kordell Thompson. As many of you know, numerous great and great-great nieces and nephews.
He was pre-deceased by his parents Joseph and Beryl Ell, sister Eileen Baird, and sister-in-law Coral Heron.
Steve was well loved and will be forever missed by all.
Celebration of Life will be held Saturday July 24, 2021, at 1:00 pm at the Chilliwack Curling Club.
