Stephen was born January 26, 1922 and died August 3, 2003 at the age of 81. Stephen was born and raised in Chilliwack and lived here most of his life. During the Second World War, Stephen served in the army and had been a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 4, in Chilliwack for over 50 years. He had been retired after working for over 35 years for the Fraser Valley Milk Producer’s Association at the milk plant in Sardis.
Stephen is survived by his sister Phyllis Armstrong of Chilliwack; daughter-in-law Denise List, widow of Stephen’s only son Charlie; grandson Shawn List (Michelle); great-granddaughter Madison; grandson Kelly List (Robin); great-grandson Wesley, all of Port Coquitlam; and also a number of nieces and nephews; and step-daughters, Rita McGregor, Evelyn McGregor and her children, Michael and Dianna Goltz and grandson Ethan, and Fay Derksen (Rudy) and their children, Caley and Brady; and stepson Donald McGregor (Helen) and their children, Donald, Matthew, and Nicole.
Stephen was predeceased by his son Charlie; parents, Harry and Kathleen List; sister Wini Agg; and wife Corrie.
Stephen loved to play the piano and sing and he entertained at many Legion functions, at Parkholm Day Care and at Valley Haven. He enjoyed socializing at the Chilliwack and Cottonwood Malls, particularly with the pharmacy staff at Safeway and the restaurant staff at Zellers. He was a kind and caring gentle man and will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and neighbours.
A memorial tea will be held in the lower level of the Branch 4, Royal Canadian Legion, on Mary Street in Chilliwack, on August 16, 2003 at 1:30 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Stephen’s memory to the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated.
